Tension has gripped residents of Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, following a shocking video confession by a staff member of a popular local restaurant, allegedly admitting involvement in a kidnapping network.
The individual, an employee of Yan Doto Food Palace located near the Zamfara Government House, was seen in a widely circulated video on social media claiming to be part of a group responsible for recent abductions in the Mareri community.
Reacting to the development, the Zamfara State Youth Association expressed alarm, calling for swift and comprehensive action from security agencies. In a statement issued on Monday, the association's president, Alhaji Ibrahim Abba, described the confession as "deeply disturbing" and said it had triggered fear and uncertainty across the state capital.
“This revelation has caused serious concern, especially considering the restaurant’s proximity to a critical location like the Government House,” Abba stated. “Many are now questioning how such criminal operations could go unnoticed for so long, right under the nose of the government.”
He urged the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate possible hideouts and collaborators aiding criminal gangs in the state.
Abba further warned the public to remain vigilant, especially in social spaces like restaurants and eateries, where criminals may disguise themselves as innocent citizens.
“We must not allow our communities to become safe havens for criminals posing as ordinary citizens,” he said. “This cannot be taken lightly.”
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies are yet to issue an official response, though the incident has sparked widespread debate on the state’s preparedness to tackle the growing insecurity.
